My sisters and I were adopted. None of us would agree with your comment. [response to social media] Of course adoption can be ethical and often, life-saving. I'm not sure why being born in a certain country means you have to grow up there. Why?
Am I meant to believe there is something mystical in my DNA that means I would be better off growing up neglected in my home country?
Children need loving mums and dads who can meet their needs and love them well.
Of course internationally adopted children have the right to information about their birth parents and to visit them and their country of origin if they wish, and of course proper investigation should be undertaken to ensure that adoption really is necessary in each individual child's case.
That's what makes it ethical.
